These people aren't being prayed FOR (they are not believed to be in purgatory), they are being spoken TO, and food is being offered (sacrificed) to them, with the stated goal of appeasing them because they are thought to have power to act in this world. That's deification. Its not veneration, or reverence or "remembering", it is deification and worship. It is not compatible with monotheism, much less Catholicism.

What an insult to the thousands of korean martyrs who died bravely over this type of thing.

Yes the New Spirituality does seems to attract people with money! Especially Buddhism, yet ironically Buddha renounced his life as a Prince and all the trappings! He went on an ascetic journey, till he found The Middle Path. Buddha embraced people from all walks of life, not just rich or Middle-Class people. To me so-called Western Buddhism is a corruption of Grass Roots Buddhism taught in its native countries, where ordinary Working-Class people are not excluded. I have spent a month in Sri Lanka at a friends house and a very different experience than snotty Middle-Class people in the West. Also such groups as the so-called "Friends Of The Western Buddhist Order" are seen for what they are, a Cult! This Cult has got away with it for many years in the West, as they can exploit Western naivetey! All these New Spirituality groups are ME Centred, and don't involve an obedience to a Higher Power we call God. Neither do they involve Self Sacrifice, which is a very comfortable position to be in if you are Middle-Class!

I tried to find the time for the Asian Youth Day in Korea and the information I have is that it will be in Daejeon in 2013 but that is the year the World Youth Day will be held in Rio de Janeiro. So it must not be settled yet. Sorry I do not have any better information.
